Among some of the things that offer a boost in our confidence and self-esteem, healthy skin and excellent physique top my list. To maintain healthy skin, the majority of individuals develop intensive skincare routines. So, what do you do when you want to have great skin but have limited time? There are numerous things you can do. In this article, I’ll explain five straightforward steps you can take to keep your skin healthy.
1. Protect Yourself from the Sun
Among some of the most effective means of taking care of your skin is making sure you remain protected from the sun. Don’t get me wrong; sunlight is good for our skin. However, lifetime exposure to sunlight can lead to age spots, wrinkles, and more skin issues. Also, in worse scenarios, you risk developing skin cancer.
You can use sunscreen; a broad-spectrum type with SPF of at least 15 is useful. Maintain a habit of applying sunscreen every 2 hours when out in the sun. In case you go for swimming, reapply the sunscreen more often. Try and get enough shade throughout the day, especially when the sun rays are intense. You can alternate to wearing protective gear such as long-sleeved tops, hats, sun-glasses, etc.
2. Avoid Smoking
Smoking habits contribute to unhealthy skin, making an individual look old and wrinkled. The practice narrows the blood vessels located in the skin layers. This blockage minimizes blood flow making the skin look pale. It also limits the flow of oxygen to the skin, along with the required nutrients needed for healthy skin. Also, smoking contributes to the development of squamous cell skin cancer. The only best action to take is to quit smoking if you are serious about maintaining healthy skin.
3. Be Gentle
Regular cleansing, moisturizing, and shaving is essential for healthy skin. However, all these should be done gently and moderately. Avoid taking long baths. This is because you are likely to eliminate essential oils for your skin. Use mild soap and detergents to avoid getting rid of the essential oils. During shaving, shave in the direction your hair grows and always protect your skin from cuts. To protect your skin, apply gel or shaving cream. Keep in mind that moisturizing is necessary for all skin types and when dry your skin, gently pat the towel.
4. Stay Healthy
I like to consider the body as a reflection of the individual’s life. Think about it; if you maintain a stressful, unhygienic and unhealthy diet, it’s likely to impact your skin condition. Healthy skin needs a healthy lifestyle and state of mind. Make sure you get enough sleep and maintain a workout routine.
